About | Launch Jax

Two decades of helping Jacksonville small businesses find their footing.

Launch Jax is a for-profit entrepreneurship ecosystem in Jacksonville, Florida. We exist because every small business that closes in this city takes something irreplaceable with it.

Jacksonville's small businesses don't fail because their owners lack heart.

They fail because they open with nothing left in the tank. Savings drained on permits and build-out, a launch date arriving before payroll, marketing, or insurance is settled. The first ninety days set the trajectory of a business, and most founders enter those days already running on fumes.

Launch Jax exists to close that gap. We give Jacksonville entrepreneurs the runway, the relationships, and the operational support to open with stability. So the businesses this city needs actually stay open.

22.6%

Florida is a high-stakes environment.

Nearly 1 in 4 Florida startups don't survive their first year. Launch Jax provides the 180-day runway to keep Jacksonville's newest businesses out of that statistic.

82%

Cash flow is the killer, not the idea.

An incredible 82% of small business failures are caused by cash flow bottlenecks. By covering 180 days of critical overhead like rent, utilities, and signage, we eliminate the primary threat to a founder's survival.

Supported entrepreneurs tell a different story.

Going it alone is a coin flip. Half of all businesses fail within 5 years. But entrepreneurs backed by a structured ecosystem see an 87% long-term survival rate. That is the model Launch Jax is built on.

Lakita Spann, founder of Launch Jax

This work started in 2001. Launch Jax is where it leads.

I have been consulting Jacksonville small businesses since my BellSouth days in 2001, sitting across the table from founders working out how to make payroll, file paperwork, choose a phone system, set up a website, hire their first employee. That work taught me how much of running a business is invisible until you are doing it.

In 2003 I founded Integrated Small Business Solutions to help entrepreneurs form their businesses, build a web presence, and find their footing online before they opened doors.

In 2014 I crossed to the other side of the table and co-founded Mr. Potato Spread. Operating a business firsthand made the consulting work sharper, not because the advice changed, but because I now knew what it cost a founder to take it.

I founded Launch Jax in 2019 to apply two decades of lessons to one focused mission: give Jacksonville entrepreneurs the runway, the relationships, and the operational support to open with stability. The Florida Certified Business Association recognized the work in 2023 with an entrepreneurship award, and the JAX Chamber named me Small Business Leader of the Year in 2024.

  • 2001 BellSouth / AT&T. Began consulting Jacksonville small businesses on telecom, technology, and operations.
  • 2003 Founded ISBS. Integrated Small Business Solutions: helping entrepreneurs incorporate, build online, and prepare for launch.
  • 2014 Co-founded Mr. Potato Spread. Crossed to the operator side and learned what consulting advice actually costs to follow.
  • 2019 Founded Launch Jax. Brought two decades of lessons into one focused mission.
  • 2023 FCBA Award Winner. Recognized by the Florida Certified Business Association for excellence in entrepreneurship.
  • 2024 Small Business Leader of the Year. JAX Chamber recognition.

Launch Jax sits inside Jacksonville's broader ecosystem as the next layer. Not a replacement for what already exists, but the runway and resourcing piece most Jacksonville founders are missing. I serve on the board of the Jacksonville Women's Business Center and have spent years referring founders between Jacksonville's best programs, including JWBC, the JAX Chamber's Jax Bridges program, and others.

Educate · Mentor · Connect

PILLAR 01 Educate.

The work behind the launch.

Workshops, classes, and frameworks built for sustainable launch, not flashy launch. The administrative basics, the financial systems, the legal compliance, and the operational thinking that keep a business alive past year one.

Our programming complements what JWBC, Jax Bridges, and other Jacksonville programs already do well, and fills in where founders still have gaps.

PILLAR 02 Mentor.

The expertise a founder cannot fill alone.

One-on-one guidance from people who have done this work. Pro-bono and discounted services from legal, accounting, marketing, and brand partners, matched to founders who need them most.

Mentorship at Launch Jax is matched to the founder's stage, not generic.

PILLAR 03 Connect.

The warm introductions that move a business forward.

To the partners and programs Jacksonville has already built, the customers who become regulars, the press that covers small business, the landlords and lenders who back founders, and the network of fellow entrepreneurs walking the same road.

Most founders don't lose because they cannot find resources. They lose because they cannot get to the right ones in time. Connect is how we shorten that distance.

Launch Jax is a for-profit company. By design.

Jacksonville already has nonprofits doing important work, and we partner with several of them. Launch Jax is built differently because a small business ecosystem should be funded the same way the businesses inside it are: through value exchange, not grants.

That means our entrepreneurs are clients, not cases. Our partners are stakeholders, not donors. And our work has to earn its keep every quarter.
